Lasting Power of Attorney - Property and Affairs

This is all to do with the management of financial affairs.  Once registered this LPA can be used immediately even if the donor still has the capacity to deal with his or her own affairs. The powers given include opening and closing of bank accounts, moving money, paying bills, buying and selling property, dealing with shares and investments.

Lasting Power of Attorney - Personal Welfare

Unlike a property & affairs LPA, this can only be used once the donor loses the mental capacity to make these decisions themselves. The powers given include where the donor should live and with whom, day to day care such as diet and dress, consenting to or refusing different types of medical treatment and access to personal information about the donor.
